In modern cars, the primary control device for an audio system is commonly referred to as a head unit, and is installed in the center of the dash panel between the driver and the passenger. Other components installed with aftermarket head unit that make up vehicle car audio may include:

- Crossovers
- Equalizers
- Mobile video (VCRs, television, DVD and navigation)
- Controls, including on steering wheel interface, as well as remote controls
- Car computer, fully functional computer (i.e. Internet, Music, games) that is operable from the interface.[6][7]

- Forward Facing Cameras
